Sundays: There might be one bus sporadically but you can't rely on it.
As a general rule: Avoid traveling in Nicaragua on Sundays: public transportation is very limited.
The main road from Moyogalpa to Altagracia is 25 km long, running south of volcano Concepción. The northern loop to Altagracia via San Marcos is
14 km long but takes longer as it's a rough dirt road.
To Balgüe the road is a fine new brick road until Santa Cruz. The remaining stretch until Balgue will be completed by April 2012. To Merida and San Ramon it's only 6 km from the Santa Cruz intersection but the road is a terrible bumpy track over rocky terrain. See: Map of Ometepe.
There is no public transportation on the 14 km of dirt road between Balgüe and San Ramon.
